The most important industries: tourism, ship-building, fishery KORCULA: Island of Peace and Sun - The central-Dalmatian island of Korcula stretches parallel with the nearby mainland in the west-east direction. It is 46.8 km long, its average width is 5.3 to 7.8 km, it covers an area of 276 km square, and is the sixth largest Adriatic island. The Peljesac Channel, which separates it from Peljesac peninsula is 1,270 m wide at its narrowest point. Korcula is built of limestone and impermeable dolomite, and in places it retains rainwater in pools. The limestone areas are crisscrossed with chasms, pits and sinkholes. Karstic polje (plains enclosed by steep walls) and small dry valleys with shallow fertile red.
NAUTICAL INFO - The Croatian coast, abounding in natural harbours, with its countless bays, beaches, ports and marinas is a real heaven for navigators. Natural indentedness of the Croatian coast enables rest and stopover in different surroundings. There are 48 marinas in Croatia, which is a member of the association of marinas and have 12,500 moorings in the sea and 7,200 on the land. Marinas continuously work to improve and enrich their services, and to adjust to the new needs and wishes of their guests. Many ports of nautical tourism made some additions to their service: traditional cuisine, water and electricity, doctor's services, services of charter companies, accommodation in apartments, and electronic surveillance and security of guests belongings.
