Queen's Diamond Jubilee - To mark 60 years of the Queen’s reign the Diamond Jubilee will take place in 2012. The celebrations will centre around an extended weekend in 2012 on 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th June. The Queen came to the throne on 6th February 1952 (her Coronation took place on 2nd June 1953). This event will involve putting back the late May bank holiday to Monday 4th June and adding an additional Jubilee bank holiday on Tuesday 5th June. |

It is brightly designed, and offers information and advice on living in the UK. This site is also useful for UK residents, with book and movie reviews, sights and attractions in London, weather forecasts, advice on accommodation in London and a calendar of events. BillMonitor - Mobile phone plans often involve such confusing combinations of free minutes and texts that it’s hard to tell their true cost. BillMonitor helps prevent nasty statement surprises by finding you the best contract for your needs. At its simplest, you just specify roughly how many minutes of calls you make and messages you send each month, but there are further options for data use and overseas access. Black Rose Love may sound like a sinister dating site, but it's actually an online store that specialises in goods with a ‘dark, luxury fairy-tale edge'. Bongal - Described as an ‘interests network’, Bongal lets you find and join groups based around specific sports, TV shows, cuisines and whatever else floats your boat. Bottle Talk is a new social networking site where wine connoisseurs can review, rate and recommend wines. You can also add wine that you would like to taste but haven’t tried yet. A clever use of tasting tags lets visitors search for wines in the database by adjectives such as ‘fruity’, ‘smooth’ or ‘velvety’. BoxBy lets you compare the cost of courier services to get your package sent for the cheapest price possible. For a parcel weighing less than 30kg, you pay a flat fee of £7.99, while couriers will submit quotes for heavier items. Boxby is FREE and straightforward to use and is especially useful for anyone buying or selling on eBay - there's a dedicated widget that lets you get a courier quote simply by entering the item number. Cleverly, Boxby also uses Twitter as well as its own forums to advertise new deliveries to couriers. Boys Stuff - Excellent website for gadgets and gifts. Items range from a talking remote-controlled Dalek to a satellite navigation system. You can even select stuff for girls. Brand Alley - Want to get your hands on designer gear without emptying your wallet? Of course you do. Then head down to Brand Alley to find luxury brands at discount prices. Britons walk less - The number of trips that we make on foot each year has fallen by 16% in the last decade. The same national survey found that most people recognise the health and environmental benefits of walking and agree that everyone should be encouraged to walk more. You can either search for the model you want to sell or browse by brand, then just click it to get quotes from up to 33 recyclers. You're told at the top of the page how much you stand to gain by comparing offers from different companies and which of them Compare and Recycle believes to be the best deal. With social-media links present and correct, this is a useful bookmark for when you're buying local. They sell jewellery, pottery and other traditional arts and crafts, with a constantly-changing stock and no two products exactly the same. DirectGov website is designed to be a one-stop shop for all local and national government needs. Doof - This colourful social-networking site provides an online playground for avid gamers. Once you’ve created an account and set up your profile, you can jump straight into the action, and invite friends to come and join you. Doof features a variety of fun and challenging games, which range from classics such as Space Invaders to its own version of Sudoku. Doofa - as in ‘what would you doofa money?’ – is an online marketplace where you can buy and sell personal services for set amounts, from £5 to £50. Extra Mile Scotland - There’s no better recommendation than word-of-mouth, that’s the principle behind ExtraMileScotland. At the moment there’s only a handful of recommendations on here. First World War records go online - Documents detailing the experiences of millions of people who served in the First World War have been made available online. Ancestry.co.uk, a website that contains personal and historical records including census results, has teamed up with the National Archives to make service and pension records from the British Army between 1914-1920 available for browsing. The collections will be put online in phases, beginning with pension records, which have been made available from 23rd Feb 2007. By the end of 2008, Ancestry.co.uk hopes to have records for 2.5 million former soldiers online. Fish2Fork - If you love seafood but worry about the world's depleting fish stocks, this site can help you decide where to eat. Fish2Fork has been launched by the people behind the documentary The End of the Line to review restaurants based on their commitment to sustainability. Ratings range from ‘5 blue fish', which means the chef ensures seafood is sourced from certified fisheries to ‘5 red fish' for eateries that serve endangered species such as bluefin tuna.
