30th Jul 10 Duty Free on Arrival - Buying duty-free goods before you board a plane means a lot more hand luggage to lug about. This site suggests you stock up on alcohol, perfume and other cheap products when you arrive at your airport and tells you exactly where you can do so. Just search for a country and select an airport to find out if duty-free shops are available on your arrival.

26th Jul 10 5th Shelf site lets you compile your own virtual shelf of favourite albums, books and films, and browse the choices of other users. Sensibly, shelves are limited to the scale equivalent of five feet, so you don’t get show-offs dominating things, and you can create mini-shelves based on a single theme. Social elements let you share your shelf on Facebook, Twitter and WordPress and there’s an Ultimate Shelf that pools the most popular items.

20th Jul 10 London Plaque Guide - Hundreds of blue plaques dotted around London to commemorate noteworthy and famous people can be discovered and explored on an interactive online Plaque Guide. There are 850 plaques in total around London and so far 230 of them have been plotted on the Plaque Guide map.

18th Jul 10 Kurrently - This real-time search engine lets you find out what people are thinking and doing on Facebook and Twitter. Just type in any topic and click Search for an up-to-the-minute stream of results. Choose Fast or Slow to decide how quickly this feed updates and then sit back and soak up the chatter. Cleverly, Kurrently includes the links, photos and videos that people post, and even their profile pictures, within its results. The site has a Google-like, minimalist design that keeps things simple and using it can become strangely addictive.

15th Jul 10 Master of Malt - Get your whisky from this top online malt store and buy much more besides. Its massive range of whiskies including champagne, liqueurs and spirits. Ingeniously, you can also buy 30ml samples of various malts to ‘try before you buy'. You can browse by region, style and distillery and the detailed information provided about each whisky; there's even an etymological look at the spelling of the word.

13th Jul 10 The Times - Check redesigned The Times' new online home, which is excellent (the redesign has made the site look more like the newspaper, with headers taken directly from print). Pages are brimming with news, opinion and features, and there are innovative live interviews.

12th Jul 10 CostCutter - Convenience store chain CostCutter offers on their website money-saving tips, advice about eating cheaply but healthily, and videos of the TV ads. With social-media links present and correct, this is a useful bookmark for when you're buying local.

10th Jul 10 Footprint Travel Guides website provides information about a diverse range of countries, with particularly strong sections for Latin America and Asia, and sells PDFs of individual chapters from its books. There are useful tools that let you quickly find somewhere to sleep, eat and play in your chosen destination and a free iPhone app for getting travel advice on the move.
